Ottawa University’s women’s flag football team is a powerhouse in collegiate flag football, boasting an impressive record of success since the sport’s inception at the NAIA level. The Braves have claimed five consecutive KCAC Tournament championships and are recognized as four-time NAIA national champions, with their most recent undefeated season (18-0) culminating in another conference title in 2025. Led by standout athletes like quarterback Madysen Carrera and guided by Head Coach Liz Sowers, the team is known for its high-powered offense and stifling defense, routinely outscoring opponents by wide margins and earning numerous individual accolades.
Beyond their on-field achievements, Ottawa University’s program is a trailblazer for women’s flag football nationally. The Braves have played a pivotal role in growing the sport, partnering with organizations like the YMCA of Greater Kansas City to expand opportunities for girls and young women, including hosting a first-of-its-kind national tournament in 2025. Their commitment to excellence and leadership has made Ottawa a beacon for aspiring flag football athletes, inspiring the next generation and cementing the university’s legacy as the nation’s top collegiate flag football program.Â
